Programs

Adult Day Health

Adult Day Health (ADH) offers compassionate care in a safe and comfortable environment. The service helps persons who need care to remain living at home or with family, while offering respite and security to caregivers. Directed by registered nurses, our staff provides comprehensive medical services which include transportation to the clinic and medical appointments, social and recreational activities, two nutritious meals, and health education. We incorporate a multitude of resources and activities – guided and independent – throughout the day for clients to participate in. We serve a diverse group of aging adults with and without dementia, physical disabilities, mental illnesses, diabetes, and in the aftermath of strokes. No matter your needs, we will find your fit.

Behavioral Health
Our behavioral health specialist ensures mental health is integrated and accessible at Mercy Care. From day one, nurses give an initial mental health assessment and develop a treatment plan if needed. Patients found to have anxiety, depression, or other symptoms are able to talk to our behavioral health specialist the same day. Caregivers can also meet with our specialist at no extra cost. Our door is always open.

Art Therapy
Through visual arts that focus on sharing memories and feelings — rather than capturing the external world — patients can communicate, relax, build confidence and express new and old parts of themselves. It has proven helpful for people who are emotionally uncomfortable or physically unable to express their feelings verbally.

Music and Memory
As a remedy for anxiety or loneliness or simply for personal enjoyment, music has the power to lift moods and lower blood pressure. Each person joining Adult Day Health develops a tailored music playlist evoking positive memories. They receive their own iPod shuffle and headphones to listen to their unique playlist whenever they choose. On a neurological level, patients with advanced dementia reconnect with memories through music. Agitation and sun downing is reduced. And, patients are more attentive and readily accept care which helps in the effort to reduce reliance on anti-psychotic medications.

Medical Care
Physical health is monitored throughout the day by clinical professionals. Blood pressures and diabetes are monitored,  and medication is administered in mornings and afternoons. We maintain diet restrictions, help with nutrition, and monitor weight. During Adult Day Health hours, we offer transportation to medical appointments and communicate regularly with doctors and families to coordinate care.

Caregiver Support

We aim to strengthen the networks around our clients, which includes caring for caregivers. This group offers solidarity among caregivers to meet others who understand the stresses and challenges of being a caregiver, day in and day out. Monthly informal luncheon seminars and social gatherings offer support, encouragement, and connections to community resources for families providing care for their loved ones.
