Join us on December 19th as we come together to honor, remember, and inspire hope for the future.

Mercy Care staff, board members, and clients invite the public to join them in honoring the passing of individuals from DeKalb and Fulton counties who have died in 2024 while experiencing homelessness.

During the coldest and darkest time of year, it can be difficult for our unhoused neighbors to find a place in shelters and warming centers with limited space. Mercy Care hosts this annual memorial to raise awareness of the shelter and healthcare needs of those experiencing homelessness.

The evening will begin at 5:30 PM with candle lighting, a performance by Atlanta Homeward Choir and the reading of the names of those residents who passed away in 2024 while experiencing homelessness. The event is free and open to the public and named in honor of Robert L. Mason who was a longtime community advocate for the unhoused. Attendees are encouraged to bring a candle or use one provided on-site.

As we begin our 40th year in Atlanta, we continue the ministry established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1831 of serving those in our community who are most in need. Mercy Care CEO Kathryn Lawler says of the Memorial, “We host this event so that we never have to do it again.” Together, we will light the night in memory of loved ones and as a pledge to build a brighter, healthier future for all.
