“It’s really all I’ve wanted to be.”

When you know, you know.

By age 5, Dr. Jeff Moore knew he wanted to be a dentist. In elementary school, he dressed up as one for career fairs, and in high school through college he volunteered at an office. His inspiration, he says, goes back to his childhood dentist. “Somehow my exposure to him, playing with his tools, seeing how much fun he had at work planted the seed when I was super young,” Dr. Moore said. “Ever since, it’s really all I’ve wanted to be.”

After college, Dr. Moore joined a private practice for four years but eventually left when realizing it didn’t provide the same fulfillment that motivated him growing up. “I felt more like a salesman than someone doing good,” he reflected. So he made a change, and for the past seven years has worked in the non-profit sector where his passion once again “instantly clicked.”

Last November, Mercy Care welcomed him to the team.

“What immediately stuck out to me about Mercy Care is the scope of care that we offer,” Dr. Moore said. “Even compared to my experience in non-profit, it’s just amazing that a patient can come here and get complete healthcare in one place. That’s a tremendous service.”

Free and affordable dental services are rare in Atlanta and in-demand at Mercy Care. Entering as the new head of a department that saw over 4,500 patients last year might intimidate some, but Dr. Moore hasn’t skipped a beat.

“Our dental team here is pretty awesome,” he remarked. “They’ve been as welcoming to me as they are with patients. I’m really happy to see that and be a part of it.”

Clearly more than a job, Dr. Moore’s career was a calling from a young age. And he’s sure to fit right in at Mercy Care, where we bring our hearts to work.

“I like dentistry because it’s a blend of art and science, you work on these mini construction projects. And I love working with my hands every day to help people.”
