Housing is Healthcare

A man stands outside near a decorative black metal door, wearing a gray T-shirt and dark shorts. He appears to be talking or explaining something about housing, with buildings and cars visible along the city street.

When Willie arrived at Mercy Care’s recuperative care program, he was in need of healing — not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. Recuperative care offers a safe place to recover after hospitalization, but with only 45 days to stabilize and secure permanent housing, the odds are steep.

Thanks to the tireless work of Bridget Hawkins, Mercy Care resource specialist, Willie now has a place to call home. Bridget successfully navigated the complex housing landscape to move Willie into permanent supportive housing — a rare and remarkable achievement within the program’s limited timeframe.

This moment is more than a milestone. It’s a reflection of Mercy Care’s mission: to restore body, mind and spirit through compassionate, exceptional care. We believe housing is healthcare — and when someone moves into a safe, stable home, healing becomes possible.

Watch the video to witness Willie’s move-in day and celebrate the hope that lives in every step forward.
