Meet Dora

A woman in a light pink sweater sits at a desk, smiling at the camera, while working on a desktop computer. The desk has papers, folders, a water bottle, and office supplies.

For Dora Llantop, service is about educating and empowering the patient. Formerly a dietician in Peru, Dora found a passion at Mercy Care in 1997 meeting one-on-one with Latina women to talk nutrition and holistic wellbeing. In her three years as a volunteer, this meant seeking patients out in salons, apartment complexes, and laundromats to provide lessons and answer questions as a health coach.

In 2000, Dora officially joined the team as a resource specialist for breast cancer prevention. Nineteen years later, she still receives calls from her former clients, and pleasantly reports they are now the ones taking initiatives to schedule their mammogram and pap smear appointments – because they understand the importance of check-ups and prevention, and maintain their whole-health as informed patients.

“I love working for the mission and core values to keep helping people, especially in the Hispanic community and for our patients without health insurance.  I feel as a woman I’ve empowered other women to take care of their health. Their education is so important.”
 Dora Llantop, resource specialist III
