Thanks to corporate and philanthropic partners, Mercy Care will soon expand its healthcare services to Atlantans who need it most.

Mercy Care is continuing to serve the more than 6,000 patients who rely on it for healthcare at the medical facility located at 424 Decatur Street as it is undergoing the expansion expected to be complete in early 2022.

The 36,000 square-foot addition will double the size of the Decatur Street campus and allow for future growth. The expansion will enable Mercy Care to serve:

          • 3,000 more behavioral health patients
          • 4,000 more dental patients
          • 1,000 more vision patients

The renovation also adds room for more vision services; dedicated telehealth space; more room for counseling, group therapy and health education; private space for pastoral care; and space for representatives from partner organizations to provide services for employment, housing, personal identification documents, benefits, food resources, etc.

Mercy Care also is doing the project in conjunction with housing developer and partner, Pennrose, LLC, which is finalizing the design of 170 units of affordable housing for families. Phase two will follow with up to 100 affordable units for seniors. If all goes as planned, construction on the housing development is expected to begin in early 2022.

“We are proud to be a leader in the creation of another home-health model, similar to what we have at our Mercy Care Chamblee medical facility,” said CEO Tom Andrews. “Coupled with the 270 units of affordable housing next door, which is sorely needed in the Old Fourth Ward community, we will be able to better support fragile patients experiencing homelessness or facing other barriers to access.
